you mean PADI divemaster?

Hi, just to add a little something, it’s taught during OW course, to breathe through a Free-flowing regulator, the mechanism, as you said, is ‘fail-safe’, so it would go on free-flow. Now, because this situation requires an immediate ascent, you may use the free-flowing second stage so the air ‘escaping’ is not wasted.
When I make my student do the skill, I make them watch their SPG before and after, so they realise how fast the air get lost.
Thats it for now.
Keep up the good work.

How do you turn on your air pressure?
2009/01/20
Well, you usually accomplish this by opening your tank valve.

Thumbs up for you, rodycombo for being bold and telling the truth.

I ask this out of curiosity, but why would you have students breath off their own octo and completely waste the free flowing air? Why would you not instead teach the students how to breath the air that is free flowing by tilting their head and breathing in the bubbles?

Does he look like a PADI Divemaster to you?
2009/01/21
Hi jphuard, it is exactly what is the ‘Free flowing regulator’ exercice, as in the Confined Water 3 of the Open water course.

hi im a navy clearance diver and just wanted to point out a few things no offence to cole i think its a great vid for beginners!
0:50 this reg is also known as the octopus and when the main second stage sticks open this is know as a free flow if it cant be stopped either turn of the cylinder that is free flowing if diving on a twin set or shut of the cylinder and breath off your buddy octopus but at this stage you would abort the dive anyway and come to the surface

also handy to remember if you past someone who is out of air of has has a problem your octopus its most likly they will be a little panicy so make sure that you grab a hold of the bcd or there harness and keep them close to you ass you dont want them snagging your hoses in a panic you should calm them down and signal then to take slow deep breath and keep asking them if there ok until they calm down

is it possible to learn most of what u need to know about PADI scuba diving by a week, even if you are 13 years old???? plz someone answer me!!
2009/07/01
Yes, but this is also relys on the student and the quality of the instructor. Youngsters sometimes have a short attention span, but are also quick learners. The book work can be done online, but the in-water work should only be taught a qualified professional.
