where did you get your info on the lyrics from? I am currently directing the show, and the lyrics are “at the children, at the children…” As for the meaning behind “…save this child….” how are you such an authority on what it is? why CAN’T it be an actual child? Earlier in the song, it talks about “another baby born”.

God, I love this music so much. I was going to say that the soloist needed more soul– but he did a hell of a job.

Who were the girls? THe voices were oustanding.

Was there a breeze on stage? Because everyone was swaying like palm trees.

Chills. Goosebumps all over. Excellent, excellent job!

Why is he wearing Paul Revere’s pajamas?

Well sung, although I agree with IIIThreat…the soloist really needed some more variety. Seems like the MD was going for a new style – way more intense throughout the whole song than was originally intended. I kind of like this, but these tender moments are placed throughout the show for a reason, so that the whole thing doesn’t sound like screaming. Hopefully there were some other changes to make up for that.

As for the baby discussion – the show is supposed to be a song cycle, its not a full fledged musical production. It kind of misses the point of the style of the show (regardless of whether it misses the literal point, which I agree having a baby onstage does) to have so many obvious, added elements. The metaphors get lost and it becomes a fairly boring show.

I say the same thing of productions that put a stand-in onstage for ‘Murray’ during Just One Step rather than just letting the soloist sing on stage by herself.

very very good performance of that song

yeah every production has its own interpretation but you gotta admit…aside from the technical stuff and director choices….this was one hell of a song and company number. Awesome voices

I get chills every time I watch this. Thank you for you beautiful work or art. You all have terrific voices!

This is so much better than the CD version! This is just awesome!

Actually, on an added note, when I first heard of this song (before I knew anything more about Jason Robert Brown), I thought the first soloist had to be him because he was so good.

wow. just…wow. this kid’s got some talent. great ensemble sound from the cast, too. wonderful blending and intensity. while i’m a big believer in keeping the cast down to four people, this song screams for a larger cast. great work.
that aside, might i say THAT SET!! good lord, that set is spectacular! organic and industrial shapes and colors merge perfectly in this set. this had to be hell to execute. good job, set designer!

side note: props to the lighting designer for that last moment (the last “a new world” theme) with the light from “the new world”. it gave me chills.

Really fucking aesome job guys! Great soloist, great ensemble, great set, lighting etc! Doing the solo in my showcase with my academy, you’ve given me idea’s! thank you

This is so boreing. I am shocked at how good the vocal talent is, but it is a shame that the concept and the staging of this is so borening. They sound amazing, but this is a lackluster presentation.

Your English is amazing. Thanks for the chuckle.

VERY GOOD….I was Man1 when i was in high school. I’m glad to see other people picking this show up

dmw, you sure have a lot to say for someone who doesn’t have any videos of his own to be critiqued.
May 22, 2009
that was REALLY good…i loled though at “no place else to go”
*walks to spot* “a new world calls across the ocean!”
i can hear everyones footsteps….lol

this is beautiful!

I’m woman 1 in our production. this music is so super hard. you did an incredible job.

too much singing. no seriously. i feel like anytime it goes above about a d, you feel like you HAVE to belt it. using head voice will add dynamic not only in volume, but also in color (tone and character development-it’s a little more tender and vulnerable.).
