A lot of games have been indeed been played since the start of the season but if one was to shortlist some of the best games we have seen so far, then last night performances would definitely have a number in that list. Incidentally all the big games featured the teams, which represent the Eastern Conference.
The Atlanta Hawks set a NBA record for this season with seven straight wins when they defeated the Houston Rockets by one basket 105-103. Who would have imagined the team from Atlanta Georgia could be the one doing this. Its this kind of performance that a team a engraves its name among the game’s elite.
The Hawks have shown that they can withstand pressure, they are consistent and more importantly they believe in themselves. Off the court, when a team that has not been in the limelight suddenly takes over, it’s good for the league because it helps the game grow in areas where it has kept a low profile.
Another sizzling game featured the Orlando Magic and the Boston Celtics. The Celtics playing at home were the obvious favorites. However, it was the Magic that stole the show with Vince Carter leading them to 83-78 comfortable win. Carter, who had seen his season come to halt the past few weeks due to an injury he had sustained, came back to the starting line up in style.
LeBron James ensured the Cleveland Cavaliers wouldn’t be left out in recognizing all those amazing performance. James recorded a game high of 40 points when his team defeated the Indiana Pacers 105-95.
The battle for who is the best in the Eastern Conference was taken a notch higher yesterday. As it stands the Hawks are holding the first position and the Magic are hot on their heels. Did I say the Hawks would host the Magic next week on Thursday? I am sure many can’t wait for that.
The results of a single game can change everything. The only thing for a team to do is continuing winning and avoid relaxing. One special thing about this season is that the dominance of the big teams has been facing great challenge since day one. Will the big teams come back or will the small teams pull an upset?
